A Quick Note from Michael

Hi there! I’d love to share a little bit about my story and why I created I’ve Got Rhythm Camp.

I grew up on the island of Aruba in a home filled with music from around the world, especially South America and the Caribbean. From as early as the of age four, I was drawn to rhythm. It was always the first thing that caught my ear. Even now, if something around me has a steady beat, I find myself tapping along without thinking.

Over the years, I’ve spent a lot of time learning and teaching rhythm, on the drum set and other percussion instruments .
One thing I’ve come to understand is that rhythm is not a special talent reserved for a few. It is something we all have within us. Sometimes it just takes the right environment to bring it out.
That is exactly what I've Got Rhythm Camp is all about.
Here, your child won’t be sitting still reading from a music book. It’s an interactive and dynamic approach to learning about rhythms, we’ll be moving, clapping, stomping, singing, and playing with fun instruments like buckets, boomwhackers, tambourines, and even our own bodies. Every activity is designed to help kids connect with rhythm in a way that feels natural, playful, and fun.

I’m a firm believer of the positive impact of smaller groups, by keeping our groups small each camper gets the attention, encouragement, and connection they need to feel supported and confident. It is a space where kids can explore, create, and grow, not just as musicians, but as individuals.

By the end of the week, we want every camper to walk away with a stronger sense of rhythm, a deeper love for music, and the confidence to say
“I’ve Got Rhythm!” and truly believe it.
